Our Services

We offer three services; Garden Design, Planting Design, and Consultancy

Garden design

At North Leeds Garden Design we offer a great, award-winning garden design service across Yorkshire.  We pride ourselves on giving every client the same high level of customer service.

How it works

Our first meeting with you will be at your home.  Following this we will consult with you at all key stages as we develop the garden.

FLOW-full

There will be a meeting to present each plan.

Briefing visit

Before our first visit with you we will send you some useful information and a Questionnaire for you to complete and return to us.  This gives us a good understanding of your requirements before we meet.

We will visit your outdoor space to get an initial idea of the space, existing features and wider environment, and fully discuss your wishes and hopes for the garden.  We’ll then take photos and make notes.  Following this visit we will send you our Proposal for your project.  This will form the contract between us for the design of your garden and will also set out our design fees.

Survey

A key part of the information we need to design your space is a detailed topographical survey.  We will arrange for our land surveyor to survey the garden; they take detailed measurements of levels and heights all around the garden, as well as boundaries, nearby trees and of course the outline of your house with access points and views.  Depending on your project, we will also usually schedule in a further visit to take a detailed inventory of existing plants and record environmental conditions.

Concept, master and planting plans

These three stages take us to the final agreed plan for your garden.  The concept plan shows our ideas for the garden as a whole, supplemented by perspective drawings that illustrate how your new garden will look.  Each stage then builds upon the last, amending, refining and adding greater clarity and detail.

You will receive printed copies of the plan; the concept plan will be a colour copy of the plan together with the perspectives; the master plan, together with the setting out plan and any technical detailing required, and planting plan, are in black and white.

We use Vectorworks Landmark, an industry standard design software, to draw up our ideas into plan format.  We will share these as pdfs by email.

Installation

Depending upon any government restrictions and your location, we will normally be able to put you in touch with a landscape contractor to realise your dream garden for you – installing the hard landscaping and preparing the beds for planting.

We offer a planting service within Yorkshire, and beyond where this is practicable.  Or you may like to carry out the planting yourself.  Either way we will provide you with an estimate for the plants and associated planting costs.  Alternatively, we may use a local soft landscaping team to implement the planting scheme.

We will liaise with you in advance of planting, to find dates that suit you and the plants – as they will need extra attention initially to give them the best start possible.  We will also provide you with a care plan to help you keep your new plants thriving.

Planting Design

What is planting design?

A planting design is for a particular, pre-existing part of your garden such as a border.  It is for plants only, i.e. no hard landscaping.

NB If you ask us to change the layout of the garden borders or add new beds, we would regard this as a garden re-design, for which different fees apply.  We will discuss this with you, if appropriate, at our initial visit.

Why choose a planting design?

A planting design is particularly useful if you are happy with the layout of your garden but would like an area updating, or an ugly feature camouflaged.  Or you may have just moved into a new house or have recently had an extension and surrounding hard landscaping installed, and just need to add the plants.

We will visit your outdoor space to get an initial idea of the space, existing features and wider environment, and fully discuss your wishes and hopes for the garden including what if any plants are to remain, your preferred style, favourite plants and colours etc.  We’ll then take photos and make notes.

Following this visit we will send you our Proposal for your project.  This will form the contract between us for the design of your garden and will also set out our design fees.

Planting plan presentation meeting

We will develop your planting design based on our extensive plant knowledge and many years of planting experience. We will present your planting design plan, a explaining the plan itself and showing you an online mood board for your project.

Garden Consultancy

Some of our clients prefer to start with a consultation to help them think through what they want and what the options may be.

Our One Day Garden Consultation has been especially designed to meet this need.  This enables us to spend the morning with you in the garden, finding out about your wishes and developing ideas for layout or planting, advising on problem areas of the garden, etc as needed.  This is followed up with a half-day back at the office to carry out further development, for example a brief summary of ideas generated & actions agreed; a moodboard with planting ideas; links to useful websites to view materials, etc.

This could be for you, for example, if:

  • you have a specific garden problem you need help with;
  • you would like reassurance about your own ideas;
  • you are concerned about the feasibility of new hard landscaping.

We don’t expect to resolve everything in the 2-3 hours we have available at your garden, but we are usually able to generate and progress ideas that will take the garden forward.

If following a Consultation you book a Garden Design we will offer this at a preferential rate.
