Flood resistant garden
Our clients had a garden prone to excess water so needed it to be more flood resistant. With this in mind we have created a beautiful haven for them and for wildlife with minimal hard standing but with easy access for these retired couple who are keen gardeners. Plants abound suitable for the location with a dry stream forming the centrepiece, which helps to take away excess water from the roof via the pond in times of heavy downpours. Retaining some of the trees and shrubs we have added perennials to give more year round interest and fluidity to this suburban garden.

The dry stream draws water away from the pond during periods heavy rain resulting in the water benefitting the garden

The shining Japanese Acer remains from the original planting. In the foreground the pond with Irises and waterlilies, the pipe with water from the extension roof fills the pond with rainwater

Marginal planting edges the pond with the upright candelabra primroses adding shots of colour. Corten edged steps lead from the patio doors to the grass drawing you into the garden

The curving patio is edged by soft grasses with a Hamamelis due to give coppery orange flowers in late winter. In mid summer the orange Geum are stunning

A path curves through the planting leading to a secluded corner with a bench for looking back at the house and the beautiful garden in front. Two large water butts collect runoff from the potting shed

Paths either side of the pond entice our clients into the garden. The large patio in the foreground is the ideal space for dining whilst the smaller patio nearer to the house is the perfect spot to enjoy the wildlife on the pond
